I. Preface
The Kishiwada City Hospital has started in 1936 with the philosophy "providing
high-quality advanced medical service from the heart". In 1996, the
new hospital was built to provide higher medical service with the set up
of an emergency medical system. Between 2001 and 2002, they updated the
Laboratory Automation System and expanded the operation rooms.
We are pleased to introduce the laboratory of Kishiwada City Hospital.

II. Outpatient Blood Collection Room
The outpatient blood collection room where we come in contact with patients
is designed to be an open and bright space. The laboratory is located in
the back where samples are sent to immediately.

III. Laboratory Automation System
Clinical Chemistry and Serum Immunology Tests with LAS
Chief Technologist Asayama:
The connected unit was expanded from only clinical chemistry to serum immunology
when the system was renewed in 2002. It increased efficiency that enabled
us to set up a Counseling Room for test inquiries and information which
will be explained below.
Samples are put into LAS after centrifugation. The sample goes to the aliquot
unit to make a daughter sample for the Modular Analytics <E>and off-line
analyzer. Afterwards, it is passed to the following analyzers, TBA-200FR
(x2), EA06U (x2), 502X, Lumipulse f, and Modular Analytics <E>. After
testing, a stored sample is prepared by APS-3100 and stored in the terminal
stocker.

Blood Test
The sample is measured by HST-N402 and smear is prepared. The microscopy
area is located in front of the analyzer for efficient work operations.
IV. LIS and Zonal Verification Method
The Fujitsu's LIS that operates the ordering system is used. The acquired
data by the analyzer connected to LAS is supervised by LAS and sent to
LIS in a mass. A&T's Zonal Verification Method set at LAS verifies
independent results which has decreased rerun frequency.

V. Counseling Room for Test Inquiries and Information
There is a room next to the blood collection room. It provides information
on testing for patients as well as for other departments in the hospital.
At present, mainly two technologists provide services but once we prepare
a manual, we will have other technologists involved.
VI. From Chief Technologist Asayama
Chief Technologist Asayama:
With the implementation of immunoassay in addition to the conventional clinical chemistry testing in LAS at the time of system renewal in 2002, we have been able to provide extensive service to patients through the counseling room service due to operations which became even more efficient.
If laboratories and technologists merely produced test results, our existence
value could be questioned. Our aim is to be actively involved outside of
the laboratory as part of the "medical team" as we further improve
on efficiency so that our existence as a laboratory become even more invaluable.

of the Japanese Association of Medical Technologists <JAMT>.)
Special thanks to Chief Technologist Asayama and the laboratory staff of
Kishiwada City Hospital.
